CPA Ontario, a regulatory body for chartered professional accountants, needed a website overhaul to improve user experience and empower their internal team. The project involved creating a comprehensive design system and crafting an interactive Student Journey page to guide students through the CPA process.
My contributions included extensive user research to segment audiences into silos. I wireframed layouts, designed a brand new look for the site, and built a scalable component library in Adobe XD. Additionally, I empowered CPA Ontario’s team to use the library for independent page layouts, streamlining content management and reducing reliance on third parties.
/02 The Experience
Research and Structure
By conducting user research, we identified key user groups and structured the site around their needs. This insight informed cohort content organization, ensuring users could find relevant information efficiently.
Creating a Design System for Longevity
All site components were, developed in Adobe XD, allowed CPA Ontario to maintain consistency across all pages. A component library also pulled components from a master component file and shared with CPA Ontario, giving them access to all the components used on the site allowing them to produce and test layouts internally. With this tool, their team could build new pages independently, saving time and operational costs.
Bringing the Student Journey to Life
The highlight of the project was the Student Journey page—a visually immersive experience with animated SVGs guiding users through the CPA certification process. As users scrolled, the path revealed steps and highlighted key milestones, creating an engaging and intuitive navigation experience.

/03 Outcomes
The redesign and enhancement of CPA Ontario’s digital presence, improved navigation through a more robust, elastic search and more effective engagement by determining specific user groups and siloed the site for their particular requirements. The self-service component library enabled the CPA Ontario team to layout new pages in house, reducing dependency on external developers. The Student Journey became a standout feature, drawing positive feedback for its user-centric design and ability to captivate aspiring CPAs.
